Love and Compassion Winter Update 2019

March 1, 2020 by James in Our Blog

2020!! A new year, a new decade, and with these come new hopes, new expectations, and new goals…and so, it is for LCA & its partners.
January has already been an encouraging month as we hear of our partners through the support of LCA being able to give help & relief to the vulnerable – leprosy sufferers, homeless, widows, disabled and children in Carmel Ministries Home.
A motorised bore well has been constructed in an interior Lambadi tribal village. The villagers have never had a good clean water supply and used to walk a long distance for a well but even that would dry up in summer.

Sharing in the vision of our partners:

New Life Disabled Ministries

They are well settled into their own new building and are already in need of more space. The Church has grown rapidly with over 200 people attending the Sunday morning service. Sujatha has recently started another service on Sunday evenings, which is now growing.

The physiotherapy department runs in the worship area upstairs, which requires packing away for Sunday Services. 10 new disabled Children/young people are being prepared for operation.
5 new believers have recently been baptised which is very encouraging. This time they used a swimming pool for the baptisms!
Pastor Sujatha’s vision is to purchase new land available beside the house that will not only meet present needs but will help to expand the ministry.

Carmel Ministries:
Church planting:
LCA’s aim is to support 10 Pastors in the work of Church planting and so be a part of Pastor Ebenezer’s vision for 100 Church plants. From last October we started supporting two new Pastors, making a total of seven.
Introducing the new Pastors:
Pastor Yesurathnam is from the Lambadi tribe and working amongst his own people with his wife & two children. Pastor Ebenezer writes “He is a real gift to our ministry. In one of the villages he visits there was a lady who worshipped the snake god. She became sick with a brain tumour, and the doctors said she would die. The few believers there prayed, and she was miraculously healed without surgery, and is alive. Slowly she will remove the snake god temple she had erected, but praying the neighbours will not give her any trouble and that they will change”
Pastor Vijay Kumar is working in a village with a mixture of tribal Chenchu folk and high caste Hindus. It is a complicated village but as Pastor Ebenezer writes “Vijay is very talented, hardworking and passionate for the ministry of Jesus” His wife works amongst the children and they have two children of their own.
All the other Pastors are continuing to work hard despite threats from the locals and Maoists. Their vision includes permanent worship buildings which LCA hope to help towards, and eventually see each Pastor become self-sufficient so we can then move on to support another Pastor. LCA continues to provide mopeds to equip them for travelling from village to village and continue constructing bore wells where there is a need for a clean water supply
School
LCA has committed to supporting 2 teachers at Carmel Ministries until it is able to become self-sufficient. So many of the children are from the slums, which is encouraging, but obviously the parents are not able to contribute financially.
Bens School
After celebrating Christmas with songs, dance and dramas it wasn’t long before the children had 10 days holiday for Pongal, a religious festival dedicated to the Hindu sun god. Then came Republic Day and just recently celebrated Chrysalis Day which is the holistic learning programme the school uses.
Renting the school building is not ideal. Paul & Anitha have had a vision to purchase land and build their own school for a while now. They would love to see this fulfilled in 2020.
Fundraising
Besides being registered with Easy fundraising LCA is now also registered with AmazonSmile. It simply requires you to visit smile.amazon.com and choose LCA as the charity you wish to benefit from when making a purchase. It’s great that both these sites are very beneficial to LCA, and at no extra cost to you when buying goods.
Praise & Prayer
  • Praise God for the amazing gifts/donations received this past year enabling LCA to do more than we had thought to support our partners.
  • Pray for both Bens School & Carmel Ministries School as Christian run schools are facing many difficult rules and situations from the Government.
  • The vision/goals of our partners to see God providing and helping LCA to be part of their vision.
  • LCA Trustees meeting on Saturday 7th March. Pray for God’s wisdom & guidance as we prepare a budget and look at the administration of the charity.
  • For younger people to come forward & commit to the work of LCA.
Thank you so much for your prayers & support.
Wishing you a very blessed 2020.Kind Regards,
Jean
